Sudan

UN investigators warned in Geneva that foreign recruitment and help from outside Sudan are fuelling the country’s war and worsening harm to civilians. The UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan said groups operating across borders have recruited, trained and deployed foreign personnel to support the Rapid Support Forces. The mission said those support networks are making Sudan’s warring parties more capable militarily. It said that is enabling more sophisticated military operations and bringing devastating consequences for civilians.

Ethiopia

Italy has offered to facilitate dialogue between Egypt and Ethiopia over Nile waters, with Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani saying Rome is ready to mediate if both sides request it. Tajani made the offer after talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in El Alamein. The dispute centers on Ethiopia’s Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which Cairo worries could reduce drinking and farming water for millions of Egyptians. The offer puts Italy forward as a potential intermediary between the two governments.

Colombia

Colombian mining authorities have removed 10 mining restrictions in a regulatory reset aimed at attracting new mining investors. The change is meant to draw more copper exploration and mining capital, as Colombia has substantial geological potential but limited production, while coal remains its top mining export. El Roble is Colombia’s only significant producing copper mine, with output of 9.2 million pounds, or about 4,200 tonnes, in 2025. The Fraser Institute’s 2025 survey of mining companies ranked Colombia 42nd of 68 jurisdictions overall. It also ranked the country 57th for policy perception.
