Ghana

Stanbic Bank Ghana is piloting direct cedi-to-yuan trade payments through China’s Cross-Border Interbank Payment System, known as CIPS. CEO Kwamina Asomaning said the test gives businesses a clearer route to pay Chinese counterparties and could reduce reliance on intermediary clearing. The pilot is for Ghana-China commerce, using CIPS as the settlement route, and is not yet a full customer rollout. Ghana Commercial Bank is developing a similar cedi-to-yuan service.

North Korea

North Korea claimed in a public weapons-program statement that it has developed an AI-enabled hypersonic missile capability. The system described would combine artificial intelligence with a missile designed for high-speed flight, a pairing that would matter because AI-assisted guidance or command functions could complicate tracking and interception. The development is being closely watched by South Korea, Japan and other Indo-Pacific governments as they weigh missile-defense and deterrence planning against another North Korean weapons capability.

Argentina

Flybondi says it went to court to shield its creditor obligations after a 57-day suspension of flights. The filing places the Argentine low-cost airline’s debts into a creditor process tied to the country’s domestic aviation market, where budget carriers serve price-sensitive travelers with lower fares. For passengers and routes, Flybondi remains part of Argentina’s lower-fare domestic competition, while creditors face a court process over what the airline owes.
