Tunisia

The Tunisian Association of Democratic Women says it will challenge a state freezing order in court after authorities suspended the activities of multiple associations in Tunisia. Civil society groups and rights advocates say the suspensions show civic space narrowing under President Kais Saied. Rights groups and opposition figures also describe growing pressure on independent organizations and dissent, and authorities have suspended groups including the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights. Separately, police arrested journalist Mohamed al-Yousfi, and a court postponed consideration of a state-security conspiracy case after defendants were absent.

Pakistan

Amnesty International says Pakistani authorities have re-arrested rights lawyers Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha on charges tied to their attendance at a peaceful protest. The rights group says the case shows Pakistan’s legal system being used against critical voices. It says the arrests are politically motivated, aimed at punishing their human rights work, and it is calling on authorities to release them.

Cambodia

SuperBankRatings released a Cambodia ranking for banks with 1 billion to 1.99 billion dollars in assets. The bank-rating company said the list groups lenders by asset size within the country, giving customers, investors and regulators a way to compare institutions of similar scale in Cambodia’s banking sector. Cambodia Investment Review said digital banking, cashless payments and financial technology are being showcased in the sector as finance grows alongside interest in payments and banking technology. Another SuperBankRatings release is scheduled for September 18. It will cover banks in the larger 2 billion to 4.99 billion dollar asset category.
