Palestine
Amnesty International said Israel issued at least 15 West Bank land-confiscation orders in July 2026 covering about 200 dunams in the Jenin governorate. The group said the Israeli military signed the orders for land in Areas A and C. Amnesty said the orders appeared designed to connect the planned settlements of Emek Dotan and Noa, advancing settlement expansion, and called them unlawful annexation measures.

Iraq
Iraqi authorities said Iraq has completed investigations into roughly 5,700 ISIS detainees transferred from Syria earlier this year. The completed inquiries leave the detainees in Iraqi custody as their cases move beyond the investigation stage. The transfer matters because Iraq is taking custody of thousands of ISIS suspects formerly held by the United States backed Syrian Democratic Forces in detention facilities across eastern Syria. The detainees were mostly men held since 2019, and officials said US Central Command initiated the mass transfer after the Syrian government agreed to integrate the SDF into its army.
Ecuador
Ecuador’s new adoption law took effect August 14, barring LGBTQ+ couples from adopting and stating that only different-sex couples can adopt children. LGBTQ+ advocates say the law endangers children, even as it was approved as a measure to reduce the time children spend in foster care. The National Assembly approved the legislation 118 to 0. It also requires single people adopting children to be heterosexual, even though marriage equality is legal in Ecuador.
