Yemen

Yemen’s internationally recognized government carried out at least 15 airstrikes against Houthi positions in Taiz and Hodeidah on Friday, the Yemeni military said. The military said government warplanes targeted Houthi positions, gatherings and vehicles as fighting with the Iran-backed Houthis escalated in western Yemen. The clashes intensified over two days in Taiz Governorate, testing a fragile 2022 truce that had reduced some of the heaviest fighting. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said about 1,790 families were displaced over two days after the escalation in Taiz Governorate.

Mexico

China warned during Roberto Velasco’s Beijing visit that its relations with Mexico should not be shaped by pressure from other countries. The message put third-party influence at the center of the talks, meaning Beijing wants Mexico-China ties to be driven by their own diplomacy rather than outside powers. Velasco, Mexico’s deputy foreign minister, called for a new cooperation agenda with China and said both countries share respect for sovereignty and equality. He said Mexico’s role as APEC host in 2028 would help position the country as a bridge between the Americas and Asia, giving the visit a direct link to future regional diplomacy.
