Myanmar
Flight operations at Myanmar’s second-busiest airport were halted after the military-backed government accused rebel groups of attempted drone attacks. Myanmar Airways International said all international flights from Mandalay’s Tada-U International Airport on September 11 and 12 were cancelled, while domestic flights were transferred to a nearby airport for operational reasons. The military government has been battling pro-democracy rebels since seizing power in 2021, and the disruption affected a major aviation hub.

Niger

The reshuffle came less than two weeks after a nearly 24-hour mutiny in Niamey, where mostly young soldiers took other service members hostage at a military base and fired at sensitive sites in the capital. Analysts and diplomats said the mutineers appeared aggrieved over worsening militant violence and poor conditions within the military.

Afghanistan
The United Nations has issued a warning that life for Afghans is becoming harder under Taliban rule, with poverty, limited aid access and curbs on women and girls shaping everyday life. Aid constraints are leaving local areas with less support, while limits on female education, work and public life continue to affect women and girls across the country. People returning to Afghanistan are increasing pressure on basic services, which must absorb additional arrivals while already struggling to meet essential needs.
