Iraq’s top economic development on September 8, 2026, was the oil minister saying oil exports had risen to more than 3 million barrels per day, underscoring the weight of oil revenue in the national economy. In the same governance and economic roundup, the Development Road project highlighted Baghdad’s push to strengthen Iraq as a trade and logistics link between the Gulf and Turkey. The Council of Representatives’ scrutiny of Baghdad collection, maintenance and electricity distribution contracts carried stakes for public spending and power service oversight. Authorities returned 388 irregular migrants from an Arab country, while the Integrity Commission’s arrest of Tikrit municipality’s investment director put municipal investment management under corruption enforcement.
