Iraq

Iraq’s Gulf oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz have returned to prior levels, easing an immediate supply concern, even as drone attacks forced some refineries in the Kurdistan region to halt operations. Iraq is a major OPEC producer, so refinery disruptions can hit government revenue, local fuel supply and wider market confidence even when export volumes recover. The split picture shows an oil system that is resilient at the export end but still vulnerable inside the country, where attacks on refining sites can create pressure despite steady crude flows through Gulf routes.

Nepal

Rescue authorities in Nepal say an avalanche swept through the base camp of 7,126-meter Himlung peak in Manang district early Sunday, Sept. 27, killing at least 15 expedition workers. They say that toll includes eight bodies recovered Thursday, Oct. 1, as recovery work continued at the mountain camp, and that ten people were rescued. The avalanche buried tents used by Nepali climbing guides and kitchen workers who had arrived ahead of foreign clients to prepare for the autumn climbing season. Earlier, eight experienced mountain guides searched through the snow for workers buried at the site.

Palestine

A Palestinian was killed and another was wounded in Yasuf in the West Bank as Sukkot violence spread, Palestinian officials said, adding that Israeli settlers shot both men. According to IDF and Palestinian accounts, multiple violent confrontations also took place elsewhere in the West Bank during the holiday. The IDF intervened in Beita amid clashes linked to the olive harvest, while Palestinians said at least one person was wounded after settlers threw stones in Burin and Asira al Qibliya. The violence coincided with remarks by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who said the entire West Bank belongs to Israel. He also threatened to dismantle the Palestinian Authority if he becomes defense minister.
