Eritrea
The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control says U.S. sanctions targeting Eritrea’s governing party and military have expired or been lifted. The measures were introduced in 2021 during the Biden administration and applied to the country’s ruling party and military. Eritrea sits on the Red Sea in the Horn of Africa, and its coastline lies near the Bab el-Mandeb, the maritime chokepoint connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden. The change removes those U.S. penalties as Eritrea’s position near Red Sea shipping lanes gains weight amid growing insecurity around the route.

Singapore
A Singapore court on Thursday appointed KPMG restructuring executives as interim judicial managers of Radiant World Corporation Pte, the main Singapore operating unit of iron ore trader Radiant World. Interim judicial management puts a company under temporary outside control while restructuring or insolvency issues are assessed, and the order leaves KPMG in control during the interim process. The case was brought by the Singapore unit of Japan’s Mizuho Financial Group. The Mizuho unit said banks and counterparties had distanced themselves after concerns at Radiant World’s banks. It alleges invoices provided to the banks may not have been valid, an allegation Radiant World denies.

Lebanon
Jesuit Refugee Service says violence in Lebanon has uprooted thousands more people, including families whose homes have been lost, and pushed them to seek places to stay through local communities and aid groups. United Nations humanitarian agencies say Lebanon was already hosting around 1.5 million Syrian refugees, along with thousands of Palestinian refugees and vulnerable Lebanese communities, when this new wave began. The service says local communities, faith organizations and humanitarian workers are helping families find emergency accommodation, while the violence hits a country under severe economic and institutional strain. It warned the violence is increasing demand for places to stay.
