Singapore refiner Aster Chemicals and Energy is turning to crude suppliers in West Africa, Latin America, the U.S. and Canada as disruptions affect Middle Eastern oil supplies to Asia. Han Lih Kwong, managing director of Aster’s refinery and chemical assets, said the refinery previously sourced about 70% of its crude from the Middle East and has had to diversify after Gulf export disruptions. Aster has increased purchases of crude grades it had processed before in smaller quantities to keep its 300,000-barrel-a-day Bukom Island refinery supplied. The company is also expanding crude oil storage capacity to improve supply security.
Venezuela
Chevron said it will invest $7 billion in Venezuela over five years and aims to double its Venezuelan oil production to 600,000 barrels per day. The company said it added two fields to its Petroindependencia joint venture after U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright visited Caracas last week. U.S. and Venezuelan authorities announced an oil agreement Friday involving expanded U.S.-linked participation in Venezuela’s oil sector, a field long central to the country’s economy and its political relationship with Washington. Chevron’s five-year investment plan is the latest announced step following the Washington-Caracas oil agreement.

Brazil
Brazil’s Supreme Court canceled deliberations for a second straight day Thursday as an internal dispute between two justices deepened. The clash is tied to the Banco Master case, which has spilled into the high court through a conflict between Justice Alexandre de Moraes and Justice André Mendonça. De Moraes accused Mendonça of abusing his authority on the court for political gains. The broader tensions around the court include right-wing criticism of orders overseen by de Moraes that suspended X and Rumble for failing to comply with judicial orders, while the court remains central to fights over democracy, disinformation and the movement around former President Jair Bolsonaro.
