Bangladesh

More than 14 bodies of Bangladeshi migrant workers arrive home each day on average, equal to more than 5,100 repatriations a year, even as overseas labor remains central to Bangladesh’s economy through remittances. The reliance on death certificates issued abroad creates an oversight gap in Bangladesh over the stated causes of death. The deaths have put recruitment practices, workplace safety, debt burdens and consular protection under scrutiny by Bangladeshi authorities responsible for overseas labor and consular services.

Mali

Mali’s army and Russian military partners entered Kidal on October 6, 2026, after reinforcing positions at Anéfis and Aguelhoc during an offensive to retake the city. Kidal is a strategic northern city and a symbolic stronghold in Mali’s conflict with separatist groups. The general staff said air and ground operations were under way in the region to target armed groups and restore security and movement. The Azawad Liberation Front, a separatist group active in the conflict over northern Mali, said it made a strategic withdrawal from Kidal to preserve lives, allowing the army to enter without fighting.
