Haiti
Haiti’s Foreign Ministry has urged the UN Security Council to renew the mandate of an internationally backed security force aimed at curbing armed groups that control parts of the country. Foreign Minister Raina Forbin said the Gang Suppression Force needs to be fully deployed with international support. The ministry says renewal is needed to ensure safety ahead of elections scheduled for December.

Syria
UN investigators warned that Israeli military operations in Syria could amount to war crimes, citing concern over continued Israeli violations and risks of civilian harm from outside military action. The operations were described as raising legal exposure for Israel if civilian harm results. The warning matters because it could complicate efforts to stabilize parts of Syria after years of war.

Guatemala
Guatemala’s government has proposed a ceiling on diesel prices after high fuel costs sparked protests, and sent the measure to Congress for debate and possible approval. President Bernardo Arévalo de León said the cap is meant to ease fuel costs recorded across the country over the past six months. Arévalo said the initiative now goes to a legislature where he lacks a majority. An earlier subsidy measure was approved two months ago, but Arévalo’s later push for another fuel aid package did not succeed.
