Yemen

Government forces and the Houthis fought simultaneously on Yemen’s Marib and Taiz fronts, with ground battles, airstrikes and reciprocal shelling marking the latest military escalation. The two fronts matter because active combat there keeps government and Houthi units engaged in named battle zones rather than moving toward a broader halt in fighting. In Riyadh, Saudi and Yemeni officials held talks aimed at raising the combat capabilities of Yemeni forces.

Honduras

Honduras and the United Nations launched a humanitarian appeal for drought relief in Central America’s Dry Corridor, targeting 538,000 people in 103 municipalities under red alert by Copeco, the national emergency agency. The Dry Corridor runs from Guatemala to Nicaragua, where failed rains can leave farming families without maize to sell. In the appeal, Honduras and the U.N. describe the drought as a driver of migration toward Mexico and the United States and a source of food-price pressure in Honduras.

Somalia

The Federal Government of Somalia and the United Nations warn that projected flooding and funding shortfalls could deepen Somalia’s hunger crisis from October to December 2026. The latest IPC analysis projects 5.4 million people will face crisis levels of hunger or worse, including 1.5 million at emergency levels or worse. It says 1.92 million children under five will need treatment for acute malnutrition from July 2026 to June 2027, including 433,000 with severe acute malnutrition. Anticipated flooding could disrupt access to services for displaced people in Belet Weyne and parts of displacement sites in Baidoa.
