Militants overran a military base in Dargo, Burkina Faso, killing about 50 soldiers before burning and looting the site. Le Monde identified Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal-Muslimin as the suspected attacker. The assault is a major battlefield setback for the military-led authorities. It also shows the pressure jihadist violence continues to place on state security forces across the Sahel.

The postponement follows canceled Supreme Court sessions and instances of justices overruling one another, actions that have disrupted the court's handling of the matter. The delay keeps the court weighing whether one of its own members should face an investigation as Brazil moves toward a presidential vote, making the timing politically sensitive.
