Uganda
Uganda's armed forces have suspended all defense cooperation with Türkiye, freezing nearly a decade of ties amid a dispute over exiled commentator Fred Lumbuye, a Ugandan government critic living there. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces announced the suspension on September 19, 2026, and said it took effect immediately. The UPDF said the measure will stay in force until Uganda and Türkiye resolve defense cooperation issues that Kampala has tied to Lumbuye’s presence and online activity. The announcement casts the military freeze as part of Uganda’s pressure over Lumbuye.

Guinea
Wabtec and La Compagnie du TransGuinéen signed a multi-year rail services agreement that the companies valued at more than $700 million for the Simandou rail corridor in Guinea. The rail link connects the mining development with the country’s iron ore export chain, supporting operations tied to exports and potential revenue. The deal deepens Wabtec’s role in the project, and the companies said its total Simandou project value now exceeds $1.2 billion. For La Compagnie du TransGuinéen, the agreement keeps Wabtec tied to railway operations as the development advances.

Somalia
Somalia's government and the United Nations have warned that millions of people remain highly food insecure as projected El Niño flooding and funding shortfalls threaten to worsen child malnutrition. They said acute malnutrition among children is expected to worsen in the coming months, with rural populations carrying most of the country's malnutrition burden. The IPC analysis projects 5.4 million people will face crisis levels of hunger or worse between October and December 2026, including 1.5 million at emergency levels or worse. The highest risk window runs from October to December 2026, when heavy flooding is expected.
