Ecuador

At least 24 inmates were killed and 42 others wounded in a prison clash in Guayaquil, Ecuador’s main port city. Separately, prison authorities said a drone attack on Guayaquil’s Prison Number 4 two weeks earlier was part of “a war between international cartels.” Ecuador’s prisons have been sites of deadly confrontations involving organized crime groups, making Guayaquil a strategic focus in national security concerns.

United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia together accounted for 50% of cyberattacks recorded across the Gulf in the first half of 2026. Across the Middle East, attacks increased over that span, including threats aimed at financial gain. Attacks affecting the two Gulf states also used more sophisticated methods.

Venezuela

Venezuela has resumed primary aluminum exports to the United States after almost a decade. The trade agreement between CVG Venalum, Mercuria Energy Group LTD and Heeney Capital put the shipment at more than 15,000 tons. CVG Venalum is the state-owned Guayana company, while Mercuria and Heeney Capital are the international firms in the agreement. The shipment covered aluminum ingots with purity levels of 99.5 percent and 99.7 percent, reconnecting Venezuela’s aluminum industry with U.S. buyers after years without such exports.
