Mexico

Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography said violence forcibly displaced people from 510,000 households to another part of the country between October 2020 and October 2025. The agency said the displacement affected 1.6 million people, including those forced to flee and those left behind to cope with the consequences. The figures offer Mexico’s first wider official snapshot of an internal displacement crisis long tracked by civil society groups.

Thailand

Bangkok authorities declared all 50 districts disaster areas Saturday after days of heavy rain flooded roads, homes and restaurants across Thailand’s capital. Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said almost 300 millimeters of rain had fallen since Thursday afternoon. He said the downpours had been almost continuous, swelling canals. Somkid Pheuk-ngam, a vendor living near a canal north of central Bangkok, said the latest flooding was worse than the 2011 flood and had forced her to close her shop for two days. The declaration covered the whole city as more rain was forecast.
