Peru
A pending Inter-American Court of Human Rights ruling could determine whether Peru has met its human-rights duties to protect isolated Indigenous peoples in the Amazon and could shape how governments balance Indigenous reserves with development concessions across the region. Petitioners say communities that have chosen little or no outside contact face land invasion, logging, mining and territorial pressure. They also say even limited contact heightens disease risks for those communities. Peru says it has protected isolated Indigenous peoples and is defending its state protection as the case moves toward a ruling.

Lebanon
The Lebanese military says a suspicious object detonated Wednesday in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh Al-Fawqa area, wounding one soldier and three civilians. The army says soldiers were escorting residents to inspect their properties at the time, and an investigation with engineering inspectors determined the object was the source. Southern Lebanon remains dangerous after recent hostilities, as residents return to affected areas where hazardous remnants pose risks.
Chad
OCHA’s latest assessment says Chad faces a deepening humanitarian emergency, with civilians under growing pressure from hunger, malnutrition, forced displacement and climate shocks. The agency says political and economic strain, poor health care, unsafe water and inadequate sanitation are leaving families with fewer ways to get food, treatment and clean water. Chad is also receiving people fleeing conflicts in neighboring states, adding demand for food, health care, water and sanitation services and raising the risk of wider regional instability.
