Match the widget to your site
Take your brand color from your site, set the language, and keep the widget on your own domains.
A widget can wear your brand color without you looking it up, speak your readers' language, and run only on your own sites. These settings are on every widget's form, when you create it and when you edit it from My Widgets.
Use your color
The color lives under Primary Color. New widgets start with Auto on.
- With Auto on, Lexy reads your brand color from the site under Allowed Domain: its theme color, its web app manifest or a brand color in its stylesheet. On your pages, the widget also reads the color from each page as it loads. If it finds none, it uses Lexy purple.
- To choose your own, click the swatch and pick a color, or type a hex code such as
#1A73E8. Picking or typing switches Auto off. - To follow your site again, switch Auto back on.
The note under the field tells you where the color stands.
| The note says | What it means |
|---|---|
| Add the allowed domain above and the color is read from it. | Auto is on, and there is no domain to read from yet. |
| Matched to example.com from its theme-color tag. | Lexy found your color. Type over it to set your own. |
| example.com does not state a brand color. | Nothing was found on your home page. The widget still reads each page it is embedded on. Check again looks once more. |
| Used on every page this widget appears on. | Auto is off, and your own color is used everywhere. |
A color found by Auto that is too light for white text is darkened, and the note says so. On a filled card, a pale color you pick yourself gets dark text.
Fill the card
Filled Card fills the card with your color. Off, the card is white and your color sits on its border, its icon and its button. It is in Widget Settings for the Embedded card, and on the Profile widget's form. See Choose how a widget looks on your page.
Choose the language
| Widget | Its language |
|---|---|
| Single game | The game's own language. |
| Topic feed | The Language you choose with the topic. |
| Auto widget | Each page's own language. The Fallback language is used when it can't be detected. |
| News Brief | The Languages you turn on. Readers switch between them. |
| Profile | The Language you choose. |
Lexy speaks English, Spanish, Arabic and Turkish. The widget's buttons and labels follow its language, and Arabic widgets read right to left.
Keep it on your sites
Allowed Domain sets where the widget may run. It is required for the Auto widget and the News Brief, and available on every other widget. With a domain set:
- The widget shows only on that site and its subdomains. Copied onto another site, it doesn't display. Previews in your dashboard still work.
- An Auto widget writes quizzes only for pages on that site.
- Auto reads your color from it. With several domains, the first one is used.
Leave it empty and the widget runs on any site that has its code.
- Enter the domain on its own, such as
example.com, withouthttps://or a path.www.is ignored. - For more than one site, separate them with commas:
example.com, example.org. - Click Save changes, or Save widget for a new one.
Common questions
Why can't I change the color?
Auto is on and there is no Allowed Domain to read from yet. Enter your domain, or switch Auto off to choose a color yourself.
I changed my site's colors. Do I need to update the widget?
Not with Auto on. The widget reads the color from each page as it loads, so the new color comes through by itself.
Will the widget show on my staging site?
Yes, if it is a subdomain of an allowed domain: example.com covers staging.example.com. A different domain needs adding to the list.
