Let the Auto widget make a quiz for every article

One snippet writes a quiz from each article, in its own language, and rewrites it when the story changes.

Widgets and embeds
Updated October 5, 2026

The Auto widget puts a quiz on every article from one piece of code in your article template. The first time a page is viewed, Lexy reads it and writes questions about it, in the page's own language. There is nothing to make by hand.

Set it up

  1. In the header, click the arrow next to Create New Game and choose Create Widget, then Auto widget.
  2. Enter your site under Allowed Domain, such as example.com.
  3. Choose a Fallback language, used only when a page's language can't be detected.
  4. Set the color, or leave Auto on. See Match the widget to your site.
  5. Click Save widget and paste the code into your article template. See Add Lexy to your site.

The widget shows as Pending on My Widgets until it first loads on your allowed domain. The first article that loads it switches it on, and the widget takes your domain as its name.

How it makes a quiz

  • From the page itself. It reads the article the way the reader's browser shows it, so there is no feed to set up. On a page with video or audio, questions can come from those too. See Unlock questions as viewers watch.
  • In the page's language. English, Spanish, Arabic or Turkish, detected page by page.
  • Once for each page. Later readers get the same questions. Links with tracking codes on the end share the article's quiz.
  • About facts that hold. Running figures such as casualty counts, scores and prices aren't treated as final, and nothing is asked about the byline or the publish date.

On the Embedded card, questions unlock as the reader goes. See How the gated card works.

See the pages it runs on

  1. On My Widgets, open the widget's menu and choose View Pages.
  2. The Widget Pages drawer lists every page the widget has run on, most recently seen first, with page and play totals at the top. To find one, type part of its address or headline and click Filter.

Each page shows its headline, link, plays, language and when it was Last seen. A page with a game of its own has View game.

Ask for new questions

  • One page: in View Pages, click Refresh questions on that page.
  • Every page: open the widget's menu, choose Refresh Pages and confirm.

Each page then writes new questions from its current content the next time someone opens it.

Games in My Games

A page's own game goes in My Games, under one row for the widget marked Auto. Click it to see its games. Pages in FAQ or QR mode always get a game. The Embedded card and Overlay put their questions straight onto the card, so most of their pages show in View Pages without a game.

When an article changes

Each time a page loads, Lexy compares it with the version its questions came from: the last-edited date your page gives, the figures in the text and the article's length.

  • A small edit, such as a fixed typo, keeps the questions. The page may show Content changed.
  • A real change, such as a new edit date, a corrected figure or a large rewrite, gets new questions from the current version.
  • A page is rebuilt at most once an hour. Refresh questions doesn't wait for that.

When a page with its own game is rebuilt, a new game takes over the page and the old one keeps its plays. The title is written once, with the page's first game, and every rebuild keeps it. To change it, open the game's ⋮ menu on My Games, choose Edit, and type a new Game Title. Your title stays through later rebuilds.

Common questions

Can I edit the questions it writes?

A page's game in My Games can be edited like any other. See Correct a question after it is live. A rebuild writes fresh questions, so earlier edits don't carry over.

How do I take it off my pages for a while?

Open its menu on My Widgets and choose Unpublish. Your pages show a short "not available" message until you choose Publish.
